With COVID-19 on everyone’s mind, it’s easy to forget that we’re facing other issues—but some things can’t wait. Plastics are destroying our oceans, and the only effective way to tackle the problem is with government intervention. We were challenged to secure 10,000 signatures on Oceana’s petition for a federal ban on single-use plastics, despite the pandemic.
To meet the challenge, we created the Plastic Disaster campaign. Our creative transformed plastics into crashed oil tankers and other man-made disasters to help our audience understand how urgent and environmentally destructive the issue truly is. Through compelling, dramatic videos and social posts, we garnered over 2.5 million impressions, 1.5 million video views, and smashed our original goal with over 28,000 signatures. Combined with the efforts of other partners, the petition reached a whopping 100,000 signatures and counting!
